Welcome!

African American literature is an often under-rated and unexplored aspect of American literature.  Over time, more and more authors are recognized for their writing and efforts to address social and political issues concerning race and living as an African American in a country that has a history that is filled with exploitation and discrimination against the African American race.

This blog has been created to portray and explore African American literature, starting with slave narratives and moving forward throughout American history.  Each of the featured authors can be seen at the top of this page, and upon clicking, you will be provided with information on the author as well as how their novel addressed social and political issues through various writing techniques.  You will also be provided with a few discussion questions and facts to go along with your reading.

As mentioned at the right of the page, this blog is a project for an African American Literature class taking place at West Virginia University.  That being said, I hope you find the information within to be interesting, insightful, and useful in expanding your knowledge of African American literature.

Enjoy!
